In Conclusion

The Dales Highway is a superb walk through stunning scenery. I have been recommending it to everyone we meet on the way

So much of this route is away from traffic noise, that constant soundtrack to so much of our lives

The same applies to the landscape: beautiful degree views on so much of this route

Underfoot the conditions couldn’t be faulted. Admittedly we did this walk after a prolonged spell of dry weather, but with so much of the route passing through limestone country I suspect this is true most of the time

After six days of walking our boots are pretty clean

Chris has been an excellent walking companion and we have chatted about all and sundry. We are also both morning people, quite happy to be on the move by 7am

Gearwise, I am happy with what I packed. With hindsight I would have liked my warmer fleece to deal with the evenings on the campsites. I also need to look at the groundsheet of my tent which is getting damp from wet grass beneath it

I never used the dehydrated meal that I carried, but I wouldn’t want to drop this as a back-up item

I think that the next walk I do with Chris I will find that his pack weight has reduced by a couple of kilos. I am going to keep my 10kg target

We are already talking about another walk next year, I am looking forward to Chris’s shortlist
